NASP Convention - Continuing Professional Development (CPD) Credit
Convention participants may earn
continuing professional development
(CPD) credits for attending most
convention activities. By participating
in 2008 convention sessions, you may
earn between 35 and 40 CPD credits.
The exact number will depend on the
final program.
The number of CPD credits available
for paid workshops is specified in the
information about each workshop.
Participants who attend convention
workshops can pick up CPD letters
verifying attendance on site at the end
of each workshop. Please note that
CPD letters of attendance verification
will not be mailed to attendees. You
must arrive on time and stay until the
end of the workshop to receive a letter
of attendance.
Participants also may earn credit for
attending the general session, featured
sessions, special sessions, papers,
symposia, mini-skills presentations,
and poster sessions. No letters of
attendance verification will be awarded
at the conclusion of these sessions.
NASP recommends that convention
attendees complete the Activity
Documentation Forms, available in the
NCSP renewal booklet and in
convention packets, for each
convention activity they complete.
NASP is approved by the American
Psychological Association (APA) to
sponsor continuing education for
psychologists. NASP maintains
responsibility for this program and its
content. NASP also is recognized by the
National Board for Certified Counselors
(NBCC) to offer continuing education
for nationally certified counselors
(NCCs). The National School Psychology
Certification System no longer requires
CPD credit in predetermined areas.
Rather, each school psychologist is
expected to develop a personal plan for
the required 75 hours of professional
development that includes a broad
range of experiences and topics.
Beginning January 2009, all renewal
applicants must complete three
contact hours of professional
development training in the areas of
ethics or professional practices.
For information about the categories
in which you can earn CPDs, including
ceiling limits, please review the NCSP
renewal guidelines at
www.nasponline.org/certification.
Participants wishing to claim CPD
credit for their activities during the
convention must evaluate each
learning activity by asking themselves
the following four questions:
- Did the activity enhance or
upgrade my professional skills or
add to my knowledge base?
- Was the activity relevant to the
professional practice of school
psychology?
- Did the activity fit into my
personal plan for continuing
professional development?
- Did the activity go beyond the
ordinary aspects of my
employment?
Participants must judge each activity
according to its “fit” with their personal
plans for professional development. To
facilitate this planning, convention
workshops have been coded according
to the professional practice domains
outlined in the NASP Standards for the
Credentialing of School Psychologists.
Practice domain (PD) codes are outlined
here.
Members of the NASP Professional
Development Committee will be
available at the NCSP booth during the
convention to answer your questions.
Check your final program (available at
the convention) for more information
about documenting your CPD credits.
